The objective of the research program is to optimize the process of TQNPC nuclear grade resin to be more safety and more economic, and the optimized process will be carried out and tested in TQNPC systems.There are two units of TQNPC , which includes 15 purification systems with 36 resin bed used nuclear grade resin. The purification system include moderator purification system, primary heat transport purification system, shield cooling system, liquid zone control system, spent fuel bay cooling and purification system, D2O cleanup system, and so on. The total nuclear grade resin loaded in the two units of TQNPC is 14 m3. About 15 m3 radioactive waste resin is produced in the two units every year , which is stored in the waste resin tanks. A lot of money will have to be spent to disposal the waste resin in the future.C-14 produced in moderator system and primary heat transport system is the major source of radioactive gas discharged from nuclear power plants to environment. C-14 activity can be reduced when it goes through resin bed since C-14 is mostly adsorbed by the resin and retain in it. When C-14 is absorbed to saturation, the resin will lost its capacity. Optimizing nuclear grade resin physical and chemical performance can prolong resin service time and minimize radwaste amount.Nuclear grade resin was optimized through a series tests such as antioxidation performance test, resistance thermal performance test, antiseperation performance test, removal boron test, removal gadolinium test and so on. The system resin type selection is decided by comparing test result.Screened Rohm&Haas resin was successful to be utilized in NSP of TQNPC. The service time of moderator normal purification bed is prolonged from two months to six months. The removal boron time of moderator removal boron bed is prolonged from 50 hours to 70 hours.According to TQNPC practice, some resin specifications are also revised such as fine resin content, organic leachables, impurity ions contents, and so on.
