MHK-500 ring-block tribometer is made on the bases of timken tribometer which is an important international standard tribometer. Originally, the MHK-500 tribometer had the problems of artificial jamming and uncontinuousness of tests because of its lever system and scale staff guage to measure load and friction. With the development of computer technology, tribology testing technique has been developing toward the direction of dynamic online testing technique, which can reflect the whole testing process. In fact, traditional MHK-500 ring-block tribometer can hardly meet the modern test requirements. Therefore, it is very necessary to rebuild the system intelligently and endow it with new functions.In this thesis, computer technology, automatic testing technology and measuring technology were successfully integrated in the developed intelligent testing system for the MHK-500 ring-block tribometer. The improved tribometer with the developed testing system can realize the continuous test intelligently.Firstly, the measurement structures of load and friction of former testing system were reconstructed based on the analysis of the structure and the function of the tribometer. The intelligent collection, transmission, processing of the testing signals and the anti-jamming technologies of the system were presented. An appropriate speed regulating method was chosen by analysis of the related problems of using transducer to control the operation of AC asynchronism electromotor. Finally, the functions of the developed intelligent testing software, the used techniques and the system performances were introduced in detail.Through improving the former structure, the intelligent system realized the continuous record of friction coefficient.The former loading system with a scale was replaced by a new one with a force sensor connected to a spring. Meanwhile, the friction measurement was improved by changing the weight into a force sensor directly. The functions of real-time collection, online analysis, saving and display of the signals of friction force, friction coefficient, load, line speed, and temperature were performed with the supports of the developed software programmed by VB6.0, and the corresponding interface circuits and the hardware. Furthermore, the system can automatically adjust the speed and load according to the set processes during the test. Therefore, the reciprocating test process can be real-timely and quantitatively evaluated and measured. Finally, the improved tribometer and the developed intelligent testing system were tested by a series of experiments, the results showed that the developed testing system can keep the good reliability of the test data and has better test precise and data repetition as compared with the original system.
