With the rapid development of ARM Embedded technology, which has been ready to be introduced into the fields of industrial measuring and monitoring, which can decreases the product cost, simplifies the system and improves the capability dramatically. At present, because of its very low power consumption, small size and the multifunctions, the ARM embedded system has become the focus of the development in industrial information, and also the trend of the development of the apparatus measuring and monitoring system in the near future.This thesis researches how to realize the position monitoring system on fishery ship based on ARM(Advanced RISC Machine)embedded technology, and does emphasises on researching and designing the part of ship on-board positioning terminal system on it's hardware and software. At last, combines the embedded system with GPRS wireless communication module to transmit the GPS position message and other information to the supervision center on internet.Firstly, this thesis introduces the situation and application of GPS and the frame of GPRS network in positioning currently, establishes a reasonable information transmission scheme for position monitoring system on fishery ship. With the foundation of the technique analysis ahead, this thesis discusses the design of the project. The thesis respectively analyzes the system's framework from the software and the hardware. It gives viable design of the project.In the hardware design, the core of this system is processor AT91RM9200. It is a 32 bit industrial processor. Besides the CPU, there are a lot of peripheral equipments including SDRAM memory, Flash memory, LCD display, communication interface, keyboard etc. This system can finish collecting and recording the fishery ship's position, direction, speed, current time, acceleration etc. at the same time, it can transmit these information to the supervision center with GPRS.In the software design, we choose the Embedded Linux OS as system software platform. The root file system is RAMDISK file system. Meanwhile, we port the JFFS2 file system to our system in order to record the data. The necessary device drivers have been developed. Then we can finish the development of application program. All programs is programming with C language in cross-compiler on PC. The programming tool is GNU-Tool-Chain.At last, the thesis gives the practical effect of the function to design projects and verified the theories analytical accuracy and the module according possibility of the scheme.
