The rapid social and economic development and improving of people's living standards, making the rapid development of automobile industry. The scale of the city is expanding fastly, usage of various automobile grow rapidly, so the city has become more and more severe traffic problems. Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is the key to solve the rapid development of complex traffic problems.Telematics system is new industry which based on the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), It is based on Global Positioning System (GPS) and wireless voice and Date communications and for the exchange of information between service providers and mobile targets (people, vehicles and goods). Telematics system provide real-time traffic information through GPS and wireless communications network to driver and passenger, and also other information and services such as vehicle navigation, living conditions, the vehicle remote control, burglar alarm, emergency, remote vehicle diagnostics and tracking, multimedia and the Internet (financial transactions, news, e-mail).Vehicle terminal is a platform to achieve for Telematics services. This paper presents a vehicle terminal of multi-function which is based on GPS and GPRS. It is based on S3C2440 (ARM920T core 32-bit microprocessor) and an embedded Linux operating system platform. Extends the GPS navigation module and GPRS modules, video modules, with integrated CAN bus interface. Realized the vehicle navigation and wireless Internet access and CAN bus communication, video surveillance, security and other functions, and fully meet the people's requirements on car safety, convenience and comfort.Chose GPS navigation module JPl3 GPS receiver, and complete the related hardware design. Navigation system with design software platform based SuperMap.Wireless communication system is based on Siemens GSM/GPRS module MC35i. And complete the related hardware design. For expansing MC35i module through serial port, the first is to achieve the serial port driver under Linux, then use the internal integrated GPRS MC35i feature to access wireless Internet. CAN bus communication system is based on Philips CAN bus controller SJAl000.The study of the system includes the SJA1000 CAN controller hardware circuit design,CAN bus driver design under Linux,and CAN bus communication test software using EVC4.0.At last we make some test to the CAN bus communication system,and it works well.Through serious testing,the vehicle terminal system works stably and achieves the expected results.It has a good scalability and a wide range of applications.
