In recent years, the construction of small towns of Guizhou province are prosperous, but most of the constructions are extensively high-density and the expansions are lack for corresponding theoretical guidance. Guizhou is a mountainous province, and compared to Chinese eastern regions, its economic and technological conditions are backward, so the development of small towns in Guizhou has its specific characteristics. Currently many of Guizhou's traditional upland towns are in the transitional period from tradition to modern, and public outer space plays an extremely important role during this period. Under this background, researching its developments and exploring its construction principles is very meaningful theoretically and practically for the future of Guizhou's small upland towns.This paper is divided into three parts. Part I : Theory, which mainly discusses the relevant research of China and foreign countries about public outer space concerning this paper, and concludes some methods. And this part is the main theoretical base of this paper. Part II : specific analysis of public outer space of small upland towns Guizhou, which is acturally made of two smaller parts. The first part reviews its evolution and the characters during development, and the second part is a detailed analysis about its current situation, and also summarizes its problems and causes. Part III: Principles , which includes some concrete aims , tragedies, and principles, etc. And they are also ideas of the author about this paper.
