Marine Radar/ARPA simulator provides a useful method for trainees to maneuver Radar/ARPA equipment based on virtual reality theory. Radar/ARPA simulator takes the important role in personal training, assessment of competence, etc. Radar simulator has been required higher performance along with rapid development of marine industry. The explicit standards are clearly defined by STCW 78/95 Convention.Fractal theory is an active branch of non-linear Mathematics; it mainly researches the irregular objects in the nature and non-linear systems. Lots of literatures have forwarded out the applications of Fractal theory in the fields of image texture analysis, natural scene simulation and timing analysis etc. From 1980s, fractal theory was applied in the field of radar signal process, for fractal theory has universal applied property, and there are many dramatic procedure and phenomena of fractals in the radar system, such as terrain, sea, forest, mountain and river and so forth. This paper applies fractal theory to the simulation of radar signals, and analyzes the fractal property of marine radar image. Through relevant experiments, the author has obtained experiment data and results, including:1. Analyzes the FBM, and provides the mathematical knowledge on fractal.2. Optimizes the Koch curve algorithm, and applies it to the radar simulator.3. Puts forward the method of fulfilling FBM curve based on random midpoint offset theory, and applies the method to the radar simulator.4. Compares different fractal algorithms, and provides an advanced algorithm.
