Experiencing Architecture

The studies of the Chinese scholar garden in Ming and Qing dynasty are usually from the viewpoints of modern philosophy, history and aesthetics. It is to evaluate the historical works in the contemporary terms, which is easy to lard the bias of the modem prejudice.We think that direct experience is a good method to study Chinese garden,because the design method is based on experience . By ample literatures and the analyses of the existing gardens, the thesis tries to find out the characteristic of design method of Chinese scholar garden .We focu on the relationship between body and environment and the relationship between building and environment.The main part of the thesis are experience of movment .imagination and experience of body in garden. At last,we study the contemporary theory and works about Chinese scholar garden.Basing on this study, we hope we could figure out the metholds of design, which is surly different to the others of the occidential or modem approaches. We think that the Chinese scholar garden is a kind of architecture of experience, a media between people and nature.Also, we wish that one day we could build up a new system of design.
