The Chinese characteristic garden exhibition has witnessed a rapid development in China.Under the background of globalization where landscapes are increasingly similar to each other,the cultural representation of local gardens has become a hot topic that attracts more attention from the public.Wuhan International Garden Expo has ranked the top in its local gardens,revealing vast numbers of abundant local cultures.In the article,the author focused on the cultural representation of local gardens and the relationship between what it has shown and the local place.Based on the media geography as the basic theory,some research methods such as the field research analysis,data collection,theoretical research and summarization were adopted to study the local gardens of the Wuhan International Garden Expo in this article about its cultural representation and expression.The research results from perspectives of experience,memory and imagination are listed as follows:(1)The local gardens of Wuhan International Garden Expo primarily manifest the“experience”of cultural representation in the local scenery gardens as well as literatures and poems.As an important source of people’s“sense of place”and an important factor to construct the society’s sense of identity,the local places have accumulated thousands of years’ traditional aesthetic experience from the agricultural civilization and kept a harmonious relationship with the farming lifestyle and pastoral idea,consequently developing the unique Chinese manner with national style and creating geographical mark and sense of identity for people.(2)The "memory" of the cultural representation of the local gardens of Wuhan International Garden Expo is mainly embodied in the historical memory,local memory and cultural memory.As an important source of people’s“sense of place”and an important factor to construct the society’s sense of identity,the local gardens attempt to touch people’s inner heart,evoke their reflections and memories about these places,continue local memories and construct local cultures,for the purpose of increasing the local cohesiveness and creating people’s sense of identity for local places.(3)The“imagination”of the cultural representation of the local gardens of Wuhan International Garden Expo is primarily concerning symbol,local place and future.As an important source of people’s“sense of place”and an important factor to construct the society’s sense of identity,it has recreated the local culture and visually unfolded it to people,making the culture more vivid and acceptable.Meanwhile,the local place is endowed with a certain cultural significances.“Experience”is the foundation of the local place while“memory”and“imagination”are respectively its soul and impetus source.The cultural representation of the local gardens of Wuhan International Garden Expo cannot do without"experience”,“memory”and“imagination”.Its local gardens successfully represent typical local characteristic cultures and break the limits in time and space,ensuring that people can develop a geographical mark and sense of cultural identity for local places while enjoying the visual feast of the local culture.The application and effects of the media geography theory in the local gardens of Wuhan International Garden Expo provide solid theoretic and practical basis for the expression of local landscapes.
