With the reform of the distribution system ,the rapid improvement industrialization on housing, the transition on residential area management system and the constant emergence of various kinds of new-type residential space, whose condition is the market economy, the type of the residential area in the city demonstrates the characteristic of plural development ,meanwhile the differentiation of the city residential space is becoming more and more obvious . The research on the residential space differentiation in the new zone of Wuhan and the design strategies , bases on typical investigation of different types of residential areas in the new zone of Wuhan, then ,on aspect of architecture and urban planning , analyses and ponders the phenomena on the differentiation of the city residential space ,such as the notable disparity of residential condition, the obvious differentiation of social stratum and the distinct diversity of the residential value. The purposes of this research is to make residential space differentiation in new zone of Wuhan can have a more appropriate strategies of design from the very beginning of its development , to provide a feasible method of constructing a harmonious society , and to offer references and models to other areas. This dissertation is divided into 3 major parts: The first part is chapter one, describes the background , purpose and method of this study, analyses the basic conceptions , and proposes the frame of this research ,which is the foundation of following research. The Second part is the core part of this text, including chapter two and the chapter three. In chapter two, the article introduces the history of residential space differentiation of the new zone of Wuhan and its division, differentiation characteristic , motive force mechanism, analyses the trends and characteristics of the re-construction, differentiation and isolation of residential areas in the new zone of Wuhan . Residential areas in the new zone of Wuhan have been experiencing the re-construction and differentiation. The widening gap of Resident income, the diversification of housing needs and the diversification of house supply ,are the main factors of differentiation ,whose result is the residential space isolation based on income gap. In chapter three, the article introduces 3 forms of the residential space differentiation : filling and inserting in the old town, relocating and reconstructing the dangerous and old areas and the city renew and construction in the newly developed area and riverside, with the cases that the author participates in, the parrot garden ,the city garden of Taohuadao , the Brilliance Changjiang project as examples , analyses from three aspects: the mastermind, the planning and architecture design of those projects as well as the estimate of the built projects, together with survey , proposes the ideal model of the residential space in order to slow down the pace of space differentiation . The third part is chapter four, after summarizing above-mentioned achievements of survey, study and designing practices, puts up with design strategies which could alleviate residential space differentiation in the new zone of Wuhan , from four levels : the urban planning level, the city design level, the environment design level and architectural design level . This research is set up on the basis of extensive domestic and international theories ,emphasizes studies on the status of the residential areas in the new zone of Wuhan, provides with abundance pictures on the spot, finally, puts forward some effectual design strategies. I expect my research is useful for our country , especially to the architecture design and practice in the local newly developing areas.
