Since the early years of 1960, Norberg Schulz, an architecture historian and theorist of Norway, has published out many related works and made great contribution for the development of architecture theory after world war II. He devoted himself into seeking the meanings of architecture. Based on Heidegger's thought, including his early thought characterized by" being in the world "and late thought by "poetic habitation of human being", he discussed deeply and completely the architecture phenomenology, which contained rich philosophical content among "the space of being", "place" and "the spirit of place". The Schulz's theory, thought architecture shall be built up on the life world, made us realized clearly that the meaning of architecture should get related to the material circumstance, and more important to our real life world and the being of human. This paper consisted of five parts except the part of introduction which mainly explains us the status of study and its practical significance at present. In the first part, the paper traced the origins of architecture phenomenology, the relations between architecture and phenomenology, and gave list of the representations of the study. In the second part, I discussed "the space of being "and "the architecture space"in detail, and analyzed systematically the history of architecture space and the interrelation between the elements and phrases of the space concept.Norberg-Schulz considered space is made up of "center and space", "direction and route", "area and field".He divided the "being space"into five phrases: geography, sightseeing, city, housing and appliance. As a kind of concept in "being philosophy", his" being" is" human's being in the world "said by Heidegger, and the architecture space is the specialized and structuralized "the space of being".The architecture language was the key point in the third part. Heidegger built up his own theory on the basis of the traditional theories about language, from which Schulz addressed it further that architecture has its own language, which does not representsomething, but make it come out .So this kind of language takes something into the state of "being".I give the full details of schulz's place theory in the fourth part, which is the core of his architecture phenomenology. In this part, we discussed widely the definition and characteristics of space, and the interactions between the elements of space, such as space and spot, space and sightseeing. Above which, I illuminated the nature of space. The spirit of space is another important concept, that Schulz used it to analyze the spiritual nature of space. And he put such a concept in a high position above the meaning of traditional architecture space. In the last part, I illustrated the importance and necessaries that architecture activity comes back to the life world, and pointed that the human spirits is the nature of architectural design, which is also the real meanings of this paper... |
