The Analysis Of The Idea Of Space In Phenomenology Of Architecture

In the perspective of Phenomenology, the notion of space emergents from human existential activities. As the product of reciprocal process between phonomenology and theories of architecture, phenomenology of architecture aims to eliminate the delimma of modernism of architecture on the levels of theory and practice. Accodingly, the theory of space in phenomenology of architecture consists of two features which are phenomenoloical thought and practical possibilities of architecture. In this paper, we understand architecture as a kind of artifact in the mutual relation between human-architecture-nature, analyze the space in phenomenology of architecture in the contexts of Heidegger’s and Meleau-Pondy’s space thought. Following are these four facets:Firstly, we try to delimit the space and architectural space which shed light on the demonstration of existential space that include purpose, method, matter, form. In this perspective, we trace back to the evolutionary history of classical space thought in eastern and western world, and attempt to analyze the implications of space in architectrual practices, in natural sciences, in philosophy.Secondly, in consistence with the first facet, we try to illuminate the space thought in modernism of architecture. It consists of four dimensions:non-living functional purpose, non-experiencing mechanical constructure, non-existential geometrical form. All of those imply that the modernism of architecture is remote from the existential practice, and the last reason is rational space.Then, we introduce the space theory in Phenomenological literatures and then elaborate their differences with traditional view. The Phenomenological space conception is the precursor of phenomenology of architecture. it views as architecture a kind of existential space which involves these features as follows:to experience the encountering with the natural wolrld and then gather the natural resources, to construct the place of dwelling and then experience the activities of constructing and dwelling. In a word, in Phenomenology of architecture view, human, conctruction and natrual world are integrate which makes human dwell in the wolrd poetically. In last, we will demonstrate these views based on method of case anlyzes.Finally, based on the summary and analysis of the space thought of architecture phenomenology, point out the advancedness and the limitations of the space thought of architectural phenomenology. At the same time, try to put forward the feasibility of the space design method of the comprehensive modern architecture, and make the space design method of architecture phenomenology more abundant.
