Thinking About The Essence Of Architecture Space

Modernism architecture space concept, on the basis of the three-D rectangular cooridinate theory presented by Renel Descartes ,was developed from the physical space concept of Newton's Classical Dynamics. It is man-made and separated from cooridinated physical space. There is no such space concept in the traditional architecture in which the nature of space concept is place. The essence of architecture is dwelling. This thinking provides us a way which exceeds the traditional metaphysics of the dual-opposition between object and subject, reason and anti-reason.In addition to the introduction, this paper is divided into five main parts. In the first part, a brief investigation of the history of architecture space has been given .Then this paper studies the coming of modernism architecture space concept and talks about its background from three ways: the origin of geometry, Newton physics revolution and the function of technology.In the second part this paper points out the essence of science and of technology on the view of philosophy. On this base, this paper studies the essence of architecture space.With the questions that modern architecture space brings for us, we have to seek the essence of traditional architecture space and get some apocalypse. So third part mainly talks about the cosmic and space of ancient Greece and makes a phenomenological description of Athenaeum. We explore the coming of space originally and the essence of traditional architecture space. At last we can make a conclusion that the essence of architecture space is place.The architecture philosophy of Haidegger is on the basis of place of ancient Greece. The forth part mainly talk about his thought, which from his early thought -space of what human was~to the thought -the essence of architecture space is dwelling.On the basis of the thought of Haidegger, many scholars develop this thought from different ways. In this part, some viewpoints such as the space of Norberg-Schulz, the place of Vineyard House, the geometry space and life space of Kimberley Dovey and the environment place ofEdward Relph have been introduced.In the fifth part points out that modern science and technology forget the life world. The paper explains the mean of life-world in phenomenology. Life world is the place where science and technology origin. At the same time, architecture comes from life world, so it needs to return life world.In the last part, this paper has done some brief study on the aim and the questions need to be going on studying. It provides the view of science and technology philosophy for us to think about the architecture space. The thought of this paper is not mature, while it provides a new view to see architecture space. This is the mean of this paper.
