For the precondition of safe water distribution, we have to solve the seriousleakage problem of water distribution systems, which is a difficult problem for watersupply industries worldwide. Reducing the amount difference between water supplyand consumption, and effective control of leakage have become the importantresearching purpose for the experts working with water distribution. In this article, wemake further research and development of the leakage problem from many aspects,and the research results offer feasible methods and practical tools for waster supplymanage department to change current passive situation.Based on the material collection and practical investigation on leakage problem,the article discusses the research situation home and abroad and the reason of leakage,and give a summary of the control and manage options for leakage. With the introduceof economic concept, we relate the leakage control with economy analysis, and makefurther economic analysis of the check cycle for leakage. With the application ofmultiple linear regression analysis and damage prediction technique of Grey system,we make prediction system for the leakage time by Delphi, which can predict thefuture leakage time according to the leakage history. Because the main reason for theleakage of water distribution systems in developed coutries is the pipe corrosion, Wefocus on the corrosion leakage and make further research, and based on the data ofcorrosion leakage history, we present the life time of pipe corrosion from macroscopicpoint. Combined with normal hydraulic calculation method of water distributionsystems, we present new researching method for the leakage early-warning, and makeresearch on the solvability, which can make guidance for the leakage control work. Atlast, binding with GIS, we present the basic method for the optimum options selectionand DSS of leakage control.The purpose of this article is to present new thoughts and method for solving theleakage problem of water distribution systems. The research results have importanteffect and great value for the proper operation of water distribution systems and thereduction of water resource consumption.
