In this paper propeller computer aided design is mainly described. Propeller design is an important part of ship design. There are two main design methods, theory design and charts design. Theory design can't be easily grasped. But charts design can be more easily grasped by common people. In this paper, the author uses propeller's open water tests curves to develop the computer aided design systems of B-Series and AU(MAU)-series propeller using Visual Basic language.Firstly this paper reviews the existing research on propeller design. Then the mathematical methods are described which are used in the program. After that the content of propeller deign system is described. In the fourth part of the thesis the design flow is introduced. In the end, some design examples are enumerated to verify the system's function. The mathematical methods are interpolation and regression. Interpolation is used to evaluate the point of intersection etc. Regression is used to regress open water tests curve. The program language is Visual Basic. The open water tests regression coefficients are stored in Access tables. ADO is used to query the Access database. OLE can be automatic to link AutoCAD software to draw propeller drawing and to link Word software to get computation document. The interface of this system is very simple and very easy to operate. And exzamined by a series of examples, the results of this system are comparatively correct. This system also creates propeller drawing and calculational documents. So it is very useful, and can be used in pratical engineering design. The evolution of propeller design is theory design. But with the development of compuer science,Charts design also has large development.
