Multi-working condition ships usually have two typical navigational states (self-sail state and towing sail state) .The propeller has great different working-states under these two states, which makes the design of multi-working condition propeller differ from the conventional one. Therefore, the option of design working condition should be made with caution. Based on the characteristics of the propellers of multi-working condition ships, the chart design system of propellers is developed on the platform of VB6.0 and Microsoft Access 2000 database, which realizes the computer aided design of the propellers of multi-working condition ships.Main points in this paper are as follows:1. The brief introduction of the significance of this chosen subject and development of computer aided design of propellers home and abroad.2. The brief introduction of the design of marine propellers, design methods and conventional chart design procedure and the analysis of characteristics of the propellers of multi-working condition ships. Simplified ducted propeller is chosen as the main kind of propeller for investigation.Based on the analysis of the option of design working conditions, two optimal models are established with design speed as the variable.Either of which can be chosen to optimize the design working condition according to the practical situation. The design working-condition of the propeller of 33m patrol ship is taken as an example in the paper, which proves the effectiveness of the optimal models.3. The brief introduction of developing tools of the chart design system of propellers, crucial techniques, main function windows, and some problems in the developing process. This system can not only be used to design simplified ducted propeller according to the special design approach (given design speed or given speed and diameter of propeller), but be used to design MAU propellers with conventional design approach.4. The designs of simplified ducted propeller of 33m patrol ship and MAU propeller of coastal multi-purpose vessel with 2300t displacement are used as examples, then the results derived from programs and manual design are compared to prove the utility of the design system.
