| With the upsurge of digital earth & digital city construction, GIS (Geographic Information System) technology is more and more widely applied in urban planning field. For now in domestic urban planning filed, GIS is mainly applied in administration department Urban planning management system has been established in the urban planning system of many major cities, but GIS is just used to analyze and evaluate the problems arising in planning design and seldom used in the real planning design (differed from planning management). There are many causes leading to this situation including technical and non-technical factors. In this article, we will study the appliance of GIS in urban planning design to improve the planning organization quality, enhance the scientificalness & rationality as well as increase the working efficiency.First given a general overview on GIS technology, which is the indispensable theoretical basis on research. Then we analyze the times background and necessity of adding GIS technology into urban planning & design; compare the features and advantages of urban panning design applying GIS technology with that applying CAD technology and study the appliance of GIS technology in planning designIn case study, taking vertical planning & design in GIS for instance, compared the principle and accuracy between Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) in GIS and generally used manual cubic meter of earth calculating. Combined with specific cases, we demonstrate how to use the GIS software ArcView to generate the Digital Terrain Model (DTM) of Triangulated Irregular Network (TTN) rapidly and accurately, balance the fill and cubage of excavation reasonably and finally come out a rational vertical plan. |
