The work of controlling leak water of pipeline system is being paid more attention to by countries all over the world. The amount of controlling leak is an important criterion of water pipeline technology and running state. All the water-supply enterprises are faced with the same topic of controlling of leak water. At the same time, the equipment of water-supply enterprises in our country is out of date. Despite of some achievement in searching leak technology in more than ten years, they are seldom used in practical work because of dissatisfied effect or very large investment. It is an urgent task to search an economic and effective method for all these supply water enterprise. Based on some correlative the theory analysis and conclusion of experiment about impedance muffler, some issues about the foundation of model of leak pipeline are tried instructively and analysis reasonably by the acoustical analysis and the characteristic of acoustical spread in the leak pipeline is studied. The leak detection is a little more wonderful technology which can find the leak and then locate it accurately in virtue of correlation leak detection. It integrated signal processing, signal detection and PC technology, and achieved much economic benefit. The selection of time delay estimation in the correlation leak detection decides the accuracy of the orientation of leak location. The paper issued the theory of time delay estimation about some typical application environment and the universal principle about the selection of the method of time delay estimation when involved in the design of the leak detection system and actual detection. Because of the complexity of the experiment of leak detection, the paper referred the recent experiment data abroad and simulated the environment and parameter, processed the leak signal making use of correlation leak detection, used the LabVIEW in the research, thereby calculated the time delay estimation and located the leak location. By the check to the simulated system, we achieved a little more satisfactory result.
