| With the increasing severity of urban traffic problems, the development of urban public transit is attached importance widely. Railway transit has many advantages, such as great capacity, rapid speed and little pollution, but is still limited by the disadvantages of high invest, long build period and less flexible; Suffering from the personal car traffic, traditional bus performance has been increasingly slowed down and can not meat the multifarious requirement. Therefore, how to find out a type of economic and efficient public transit between the railway and traditional bus is the key to solve the urban traffic problems.Bus rapid transit (BRT) achieves higher performance with less invest and more flexible by modifying the traditional bus in planning, designing, operation and management, and provides a new chance to solve the problems.Based on the characteristics analysis of BRT system and our country's urban traffic, the paper firstly discusses the feasibility of BRT setting and the application adaptability in cities aimed at traffic requirement, vehicle runningand road network. Then four primary modules of BRT-Bus lane, BRTintersection priority, BRT stop and BRT vehicle-are studied in this paper:The planning framework of bus lane based on function type, feasibility conditions and organization style is presented. Space setting methods and time control technologies of BRT intersection priority are expounded completely. The BRT stop is studied in the space determination, location choice and berth design, and berths calculation model is set up based on the probability distribution of bus arriving stop. The determination model of BRT vehicle capacity is advanced considering the limitation of requirement scale, dispatch interval and load rate. Finally, bus lines and operation adjusting methods are discussed elementarily, aimed at the case of separation between BRT and common bus.The above research will provide the references for BRT application and development in our county's cities.
