I-VTS (Intelligent Vessel Traffic Service) come into being with the background of fully development of modem science and technology. It aims at applying the advanced computer technology and communication technology in the management of vessel traffic. The main function of I-VTS is to improve ocean traffic circumstance so as to guarantee the safety of vessel navigation, increase shipping efficiency and protect the ocean environment. It is well-known that to solve the problem by simply increasing sea-route is not only infeasible but will cost a large sum of money. Likewise, it is also infeasible for VTS center to improve the management of VTS simply by enhancing the grade of management and hardware level. Therefore, the best approach is to improve the management of VTS with advanced technology.Information is of vital importance in I-VTS. Traffic information system is an important part of I-VTS as well. This thesis aims at the research on the technology and application of information system in I-VTS.The thesis divides into six chapters.Chapter One and Two introduces the concept of VTS and puts forward the concept of I-VTS. Also introduces the function and the course of development of VTS in brief.Chapter Three states the main equipments in VTS and their features. The emphases are the discussion of related functions of AIS and related concepts of AIS network.Chapter Four discusses the problems exists in the application of Radar and AIS equipments. It brings forward the idea of solving the problem of data-fusion in VTS Radar and AIS.Chapter Five discusses in detail how to design information management system in I-VTS by utilizing AIS technology so as to realize intelligent management of VTS.Chapter Six makes conclusion and prospect.
