The task of this paper is one of the embranchment on the research of the old buildingreuse, and that also touches upon the museology. Base on the latest achievements inthe correlative fields, the paper started with study of the renovation tidal current andthe correlative theory of the foreign museums, and then investigated and made systemanalysis. The paper also planed to fill up the vacancy in the field of the renovation andextension of the national museum architecture. The state administration of culturalheritage of china (SACH) established that there will build more 1000 museums inchina till the year of 2015. The extensive renovation tidal of museum architecturehaven't risen up till present in china, however, to achieve the target, except forbuilding new ones, there will be large-scaled old buildings rebuilt or renovated to bemuseums, and the existent museums also need redevelopment and evolution. The ageof renovation and redevelopment of museum architecture in china will advent.Hereby, the emphasis of this study is to search after the way of the renovation andredevelopment of Chinese museum architecture. The paper firstly described theevolvement of the museum definition, also summarized the background, aim andmeaning of the research. In chapter II, it analyzed the causation of renovation andextension of museum architecture, namely discoursed upon the sufficiency andnecessary condition. In chapter III, it analyzed the styles and artifice, namelydiscoursed upon the general applicability and particularity. In chapter IV, it analyzedand forecasted the tendency of museum architecture in new century in four aspects,which included reformation of idea, the increase of style, the tendency of design andthe culture token. Finally, in allusion to the Chinese museum architecture developingactuality, the paper put forward the principles should be followed in museumrenovation and extension, and forecasted the latent types and evolution tendency ofChinese museum architecture. It will provide convincing evidences and doable stepsfor the up-coming renovation tidal of Chinese museum architecture.The museum architecture after renewal and renovation is the combo between new andold after having closed to the great gulf of times and discrepancy of culture; it willbecome the culture center in the city again and have particular fascination thatcombined with traditional culture and civilization of modern times.
