Slewing frames consist of top slewing frame slewing bearing and low slewing frame. It is a very important structure of slewing tower crane which joins tower top and other top parts with the mast, and it can revolve 360° about the center of the mast to lift the load. But in the past, it's always based on the experience to design the slewing frame, that is, by analogy or in terms of the principle of material mechanic to design the structure. It results in a serious sequent, and the designer has no better ideas to solve it. A new method is necessary.In this paper, we employed the I-DEAS software to developed a 3-D model and make a finite element analysis (FEA) on slewing frames based on the nominal loads and geometry parameter of Crane QTZ63, aimed to find the principle of the area with high stress and big deformation and estimated the effect on the whole tower crane system. In the last, we made a stress and deformation test to contrast with and verify the result of FEA.This paper integrated the theory, software with the experiment and established a reasonable, proper FEA model.
