| In the civil inhabited environment, the natural water is in directly and closely contact with human and dwelling house. With the progress of residential environment recognizant, more and more waterscape is involved in community design, such as fountain, rivulet and waterfall, also, swimming pool becomes to be the basic service establishment. Chongqing city has particular landscape physiognomy and centuries-old traditional water culture. On the one hand, lots of riverbank community possess of favorable environmental sight, on the other hand, the waterscape in community can fully display in geography, clime, cultural, sight and ecological lays.The mostly investigation objects of this paper are water shore, and riverbank community, as well as waterscape. Firstly the paper analyzed the traditional riverbank and the relation between the architect and water. Secondly, a series of principle and methods about community planning and dwelling house design contacting with water hi Chongqing was put forward. The primary content was divided into five chapters as follows.Chapter I: Preface, set forth the background of the thesis choice and theresearchful intent and significance. Chapter II: Briefly introduce traditional water culture from the layers of civilsociology and architecture culture.Chapter III: Discuss the water's function and integrate value for community.
