Hospitals are places where the wounded are healed, the dying are rescued and our health is maintained. The emerge and development of hospitals are deeply influenced by society, economy, technology and culture and closely connected with the advancement of the technology and equipment of medical science and the improvement of medical mode, followed by the perfection of the hospital architecture. With the progressive advance of the scientific technology, rays and isotope have been widely applied to the medical diagnosis and therapy, and the renewal of the equipments in X-ray department and isotope department has been improved rapidly. However, the radiation diagnosis and therapy is a means of injury to environment as well as people's health. To lessen this injury, certain protection measures should be taken according to the difference in equipments of these departments.Radiation protection is a borderline subject. This dissertation is subject to the solution of the radiation protection in general hospitals architecture from the viewpoint of an architect. It starts with the basic mechanism of the radiation, comes to the essential principles of the external and internal radiation prevention, and applies these principle to the design of the concerning departments so as to achieve the purpose of radioactive prevention. On the basis of the comprehensive analysis of the location of X-ray department and nuclear medicine department in a general hospital site plan and the thorough study of the design of the main rooms in these department, we systematically study the departments' plan combination, compare the pros and cons of different ways of plan combination, conclude with the advantages and feasibility of multi-corridor grouped arrangement of X-ray departments, expressed the key points in the design of nuclear medicine department and finally research the concerning technology of air-conditioning ventilation and the disposal of radioactive waste. As the structure technology is a key link in radiation protection, this dissertation begin with the materials of radiation protection and do some beneficial research on the key points of the structure. In the end, we put forward the concept of radiation protection in psychological environment, try to reduce the pressure on people from radiation through the design of architecture and make efforts to create the human-oriented medical space. It is hoped that these research can deepen the architects further understandings in the space combination of X-ray department and nuclear medicine department and the corresponding equipment systems, shift them from the out-of-dated design concept and promote the communication and coordination of architects, engineers, and administrative people in hospitals, and offers some helpful enlightenment to construction of safe, convenient and comfortable medical space.
