With the rising of living standard day by day, the requirement of electric power is more and more, and the electrical equipment with saving energy and high efficiency becomes the aim to concentrate. To increase effective utilization ratio of transformer and other electrical equipment in power system, it is important that lower their temperature. In general, the electrical equipment are cooled by gases and oil. Owing to their intrinsic properties, the capacity and efficiency of electrical equipment are limited. Scientists in many countries have been studying and finding better kind of cooling methods in nearly years. Phase-change cooling shows special high efficiency. This method can keep lower and uniform wall temperature. Meanwhile, it is safe and reliable, and will have a great future on application of evaporative generator. Because it is a new area, and relate to other subject, there are many theoretic and experimental questions need to solve.Owing to the remarkably high efficiency and satisfying effects the evaporative cooling method draws much attention. Evaporative cooling can keep a low and uniform wall temperature. It can reduce the volume, the weight of the electrical equipments. Meanwhile, it is safe and reliable even in short-time emergency overloads, so this cooling method really shows great promise on the application of large electrical equipment.Combined with the key project 'The design of evaporative cooling transformers' of Hebei province, the thesis not only carries out some theoretical explorations of the application on electrical transformers, but also presents the method on selecting coolants and studies the characteristics of the selected coolant. Then it proposes the design method of the tank structure and cooling systems of evaporative cooling transformers for the industrial application. In response to dielectric, electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical problems a prototype of 10KV, three-phase evaporative transformer has been designed, manufactured and tested successfully. By means of the experimental results, the thesis studies the performance characteristics, advantages and technical feasibility of the evaporative cooling method deeply. Finally, The thesis lists some conclusions about selecting coolants, engineering design, timely control and influencing factors of evaporative cooling transformers.
