On The Comparison Of Walter Gropius And Frank Lloyd Wright's Architectural Thought

Walter Gropius is one of the most important architects in 20th century as well as one of the founders of Modern Architectural School, and he is also the first person who advanced the architectural industrialized thoughts. Frank Lloyd Wright is the most important architect in the U.S.A in 20th century, and he is a great architect, artist and thinker of world renown in 20th century, and he is also the founder of organic architectural thought in the architectural history of the world. This thesis ultimately expects to assimilate some quintessence which is beneficial to the architectural design of the contemporary era from the architectural thought of the two architects by comprehensive comparison of the difference and its causes of Gropius and Wright's architectural thought.The thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter is this thesis's introduction presenting the purpose, significance and method of the study; The second chapter analyses the architectural design's characteristic and its differences between Gropius and wright through the respective typical achievement of the two; The third chapter is the core of the thesis. This chapter comprehensively compares the architectural thought between Gropius and Wright which is reflected in several aspects, such as the basic thought of architectural design, space conception, architectural aesthetic inclination and the methodology of architectural design and so on; the fourth chapter is the comparison of the cause resulting in different architectural thought of the two; The fifth chapter is the concluding remarks of the thesis. This chapter mainly elaborates respective different ideological enlightenment which the two architects have respectively left us.
