| Wright has engaged in establishing and completing his Organic Architecture through his career.Japanese art left a profound influence in this process.According to Wright’s words, this paper tries to find out the aesthetic foundation, which consists of art idea level and aesthetic principle level,of Wright’s Organic Architecture through the view of Hegel’s Architectural Aesthetic in the first place.Based on that, this paper researches the influence of Japanese art on Wright’s Organic Architecture.Firstly, the second chapter adopts literature research to sort the architecture aesthetics form Kant to Hegel, and to clarify the relevance between “Hegel Architecture Aesthetic”,“Wright’s Organic Architecture” and “Japanese art”.After that, the third chapter tries to establish the frame of Wright’s Organic Architecture in art idea level and aesthetic principle level according to Hegel’s architecture aesthetic. This frame can be seen as the aesthetic foundation of Wright to accept the influence of Japanese art.Based on the above, the forth, fifth and sixth chapter expand the research on the influence of Japanese to the Wright’s Organic Architecture. In the aspect of art idea,Wright’s book 《The Japanese print: An interpretation》gives a way to find out Wright’s attitude towards Japanese art: the propose of Japanese art is to abstract the geometric structure frame natural objects. This idea conforms to Hegel’s Romanticism and Wright’s art idea, this allows Wright to borrow forms from Japanese art.In the aspect of drawing approaches in Japanese prints to embody the idea, including hybrid perspective, flattening and stratification of objects, without frame and“non-illusion”.Then,analyses the influence on Wright’s drawing approaches. In the aspect of architecture spaces, the research brings in Gestalt theory to analyze the approaches of Japanese print to build image spaces. Then, citing Unity Temple, the Imperial Hotel and Schwartz House as examples, the thesis finds out Wright’s approaches influenced by Japanese are to build spaces include: Using outlines and stratification,figure-ground relationships, concealing and revealing, hybrid perspective, etc. These approaches lead to spaces that derived depth from frontality, integrated, guiding exploration, reinforced compressing and expand effects.Wright put his Organic aesthetic principles into practice through these spaces. |
