Suzhou traditional gardens, as one of the most excellent and representative one in Chinese traditional gardens, embodies the aesthetic ideas in Taoism, which include“Taoism follows nature” and “Man is an integral part of nature”. Also, its original aim of secluding from the society and the style of emphasizing nature have also contributed to the expression of living philosophy and aesthetic values of Taoism. To conduct research on the Taoism aesthetics could help us not only to gain deeper understanding towards the inner ideas of Suzhou traditional gardens, but also to have better understanding and appreciation on the inner thoughts of them. Besides, to conduct research on the influence exerted by Taoism upon the traditional Suzhou gardens could help us not only to improve the cultural connotation of Suzhou traditional gardens, but also to help form the style integrating the traditional flavor with modern buildings.This article analyzesthe gardening ideas, guidelines and the Taoist aesthetics thoughts reflected by Suzhou traditional garden from the perspective of the Taoist ideas of “governing by non-interference” and “Taoism follows nature”, so as to helppeople better understand the cultural and artistic charm of Suzhou traditional gardenand its enlightenment on the modern urban landscape.
