Belt conveyor is a kind of continuous conveying machinery which is widely used in all departments of national economy and which has the characteristics of simple structure, large conveying capacity, long conveying distance and flexible hauling track in comparison with other conveying equipment. The reason for belt conveyors design is that strong adaptability of hauling track, and the hauling track can change arbitrarily along with the increasing of conveying distance and the variation of topography, which makes the hauling track more varied. Besides, the feasibility and the reasonability of hauling track can make a direct effect on the quality of creative output, and the typical layout of belt conveyors is an intuitionistic reflection of hauling track, thus, it is urgent to make further research on the typical layout.The 3D flexible design of belt conveyors had three projects: the design of typical layout, the parametric modeling of components and assemblies, the design of database. Firstly, this paper divided the layout based on the dimension of belt conveyor, the construction and the position of the tensioner, the amount and the position of transmission drum. And then, making good use of database management techniques, the paper established the system database about the dimension of parts and hauling track in Access 2007 according to the DTâ…¡(A) type Belt Conveyor Design Manual and the dimension of belt conveyor. After that, regarding visual basic as the programming language, combining with the conception of modular design and parameter design, adopting Solid Works API secondary development technology and ADO database access technology, the paper realized series design of components and bottom-up intelligent assembly of belt conveyor.With the results of belt conveyor components selection stored in the system database, it is very rapidly and accurately to achieve the objective of 3D flexible design of the belt conveyors by making a simple selection on the VB interface. The system makes a positive contribution to reducing the workload of the designers in the field of design modeling and improving the work efficiency.
