With the significant growth of usage of car, the highway traffic in some areas faces the explosion of vehicle flow, which leads to worsening traffic jams in toll stati on. As a result, the implementation of the electronic highway toll collection (ETC) bu siness is imperative. Today China’s digital ETC system is based on wireless location a lgorithm by interferometer to realize the function of vehicle positioning. Compared wi th the ETC system implemented by analog circuit, this method has higher successful r ate of positioning, but due to the limitations of the interferometer’s direction finding a lgorithm, error of releasing the wrong vehicle still exists in real application.In order to solve problems above, this paper introduces the development of wirel ess location technology and studies the localization algorithm of spatial spectrum esti mation.Through the introduction of interferometer’s direction finding algorithm, clas sic MUSIC, Roots MUSIC and Coherent MUSIC, this paper simulates four methods r espectively, compares the performance of several algorithms, and analyzes the feasibil ity. Ultimately, the improved MUSIC algorithm—real MUSIC algorithm is chosen to achieve high accuracy and high resolution DOA estimation performance by specific F PGA design.
