"City Of The City" - A Study On The Spatial Pattern Of Urban Cultural Complex

Along with the step by step development of the times, the livelihood condition of the old society has been improved. Nowadays, the spiritual pursuit of the residents, whose living condition has been remarkably improved, goes beyond material demands with the establishment of urban welfare system. Therefore, being the carrier of the residents’ spiritual demands, cultural building is playing a much more important role in the urban function system. Ever since the new century, the composition of the urban function system has changed a lot, an obvious change among which is the increasing ratio of cultural services function, which puts forward new request for the original cultural buildings. Meanwhile, although the population growth slows down than before, all aspects of pressure caused by the huge population base continue to increase, which results in the born of the new urban architecture type-“HOPSCA”, which spreads rapidly both at home and abroad. Based on the maturation of development of HOPSCA, a new urban architecture type led by culture called “city in city” appears gradually-Cultural complex, which is what this paper is going to study on.This paper is mainly aimed to study on the spatial pattern of Cultural complex. Firstly, figure-ground relation is adopted for the classification and discussion of the spatial pattern; Secondly, based on research and summarization of the first data of the existing Cultural complex both at home and abroad, the part puts forward questions which are worthy of theoretical and practical meanings, such as the optimization of Cultural complex’ internal and external space; the reasonable usage of the “Grey space ” of Cultural complex; the four-dimension space construction of Cultural complex, etc. Finally, a certain of advisement for designing strategy of the Cultural complex is to be put forward based on the studies carried on above.It is hoped that, through the exploration and research of Cultural complex, especially the spatial pattern, the conclusion will do good to the following designing work of the Cultural complex, enriching and improving its cultural and material content. Furthermore, it could make the Cultural complex meet the developing needs of the spiritual and cultural in the city and guide the cultural buildings of the city.
