| With the"international style"spreading around the world, variety of new materials are emerging endlessly, and the brick, stone, wood and other traditional materials ,which are the carrier of the years of Chinese culture ,have been less and less used in modern architecture. Even if some traditional materials are used, they are usually antique products. We doubt if traditional materials have lost the vitality in modern architecture? Traditional materials have an irreplaceable role on maintaining people's historical complex and continuing architectural context. Therefore traditional materials'beauty is worth exploring by architects today. This paper chooses the perspective of tectonics. With a critical attitude towards the splitting values of tectonic, we point out that the meaning of tectonics about brick, stone and wood has converted from ontology to surface, and we carry on the research on how to make use of brick, stone and wood in the design of the architecture surface, probe the logic relation between the traditional materials and the form of the surface, and then think about more possibilities of the traditional materials. Hoped to provide some new perspective and ideas for the architects to discover and explore the performance of the traditional materials such as brick, stone and wood.In the beginning of this article, author introduces the background, object and scope of study, research status, purpose, meaning, methods, framework and so on, inorder to establish the premise of the paper. The second chapter is the process of cognitive and discussion about the object of study. We introduce and discuss the tectonics and the meaning of tectonics about traditional materials, focus the authenticity of traditional materials in contemporary architecture and proposed application of the principles of traditional materials in contemporary tectonic creation. The third chapter analyze the tectonic creation ways of brick, stone and wood and the examples of innovations with abundant examples as illustrations. The fourth chapter give an objective presentation on the status and exploration of the application of traditional materials in our of country, also the analysis of the current application of traditional materials which is full of lack and neglect. The fifth chapter is my own inspiration based on the analysis all above, which is presented a summary of the thinking and design methods. The sixth chapter reviews the conclusions, reiterating the meaning of the research to the modern architecture design as well as the summary of the article. |
