The Study Of The Style And Feature Of Macroscopical Mountainous Cities

In recent years, China goes into a period of large scale and high density urban construction. A full speed developing stage is inevitable to destroy some original styles and features of a city. The conflict between the development of economics and protecting the historical features becomes one of the major topics for us. For Chongqing - a mountain city, this issue of losing the feature of mountain area is also very severe. The question that how we can protect Chongqing's mountain city style and at the same time let the style accommodate to current economic development environment is important to solve the conflicts which we talked above, in both theoretical and practical aspects.The theoretical research of this paper is a sub-topic of the major topic"a study of the style and feature of mountain cities"which chooses mountain cities as subjects. In Choinqing, we focus on the strategies and methods of how to control the riverside interface and style of the city.In this paper, based on the main issues and current status of the development of the mountain city, we presented three big conflicts:1 the conflict between economic interests and historical feature,2 the conflict between the extent of a modern architecture and the extent of a historical architecture,3 the conflict between modern aesthetic view and the style of historical buildings which may lead to similar city styles.The way to end the conflicts is to build and complete the theoretical system and methods of the urban style reconstruction. This paper is based on the point of views from architecture; and it is guided by level control and macro framework construction. Using perspectives and methodologies of architecture topology and fractal geometry, we studied the macro level problems of mountain city style development and protection. This paper focused on several aspects as below:(1) Based on the human cognitive, studied the style and feature of mountain cities in a macro level.Based on human cognitive, integrated the"archetype"theory of topology, we presented the mountain city macro level categorization standards --"collective memory", in order to discover the regional differences of mountain city macro levels. Using Chongqing as an example, we studied the features of Chongqing's urban macro level region fragmentary and continuity.(2) Initially developed the methods of mountain city style and feature control(using Chongqing as an example)We analyzed the macro two-dimension nature of mountain cities, based on common perspectives of city style in a macro level. And we built the mountain city macro level urban fragment categorization standards– urban view horizontal density methods. We initially developed the process of analyzing mountain city macro level feature and style. This procedure could help explore local urban styles practically.(3) Studied the control of the city pace of mountain cities (using Chongqing as example) in a macro level.We analyzed the characteristic of mountain city's regional continuity, based on common perspectives, and developed the contents and methodologies of controlling mountain city urban pace. Focusing on the repeated, periodic, gradient aspects, we studied the feature of continuity of riverside cities, and we also listed the problems which should be paid attention in the control.
