The Yangtze River channel is one of the most important inland waterway in china, which plays a very important role in Chinese economic development, the Yangtze River with more than a total length of 6300 km, is the longest river in china and the third longest river in the world. On the other hand, the prosperity of the shipping industry as the Yangtze River, the traffic accidents in Yangtze River water is gradually increasing, which has brought economic losses to the state and the enterprise and also to people's lives and property.In order to reduce the traffic accidents in Chongqing Yangtze River, the paper analyzes and summarizes several cases in the water by the method of fault tree analysis, including collision, grounding accident and capsized accident. The cause of the accidents, mainly from human factors, shipping and environmental factors and so on. Human factors are the main reason for maritime accidents in Chongqing. The human factors include the ability of the crew; the experience of the crew; working conditions and management, these factors have a direct impact of maritime accidents. There are some old ships, transformed Ships and poor performance ships. These ships increased the probability of maritime accidents, especially in capsizing or the sinking of the accident. Environmental factors include three facts:weather condition, channel condition and navigation condition.Accordingly, we can take the appropriate measures from the following aspects. Crew management includes the crew qualifications, the number of crew members, crew'work and several other aspects of responsibility. Ship management; strengthen the inspection of the hull structure, the management of old ships, checking ship equipment. "Aids to navigation services" means a man-made providing the necessary information to navigating ships. Emergency plans, emergency plans should include the risk of the ship may encounter a variety of contingency plans.
