Yangtze River water developed quickly, and its shipping requirements dramatically increased with the rapid development of Yangtze River economic belt. "Digital channel" has become a top priority for constructing Yangtze River route information. However, as a basic spatial database for supporting digital channel,channel bottom digital elevation model(CDDEM) has not been acquired yet.Nowadays conventional topographic maps with water depth data have still been used for expressing bottom topography of Yangtze River waterway, while this expression cannot reflect the rapid changes of riverbed.This paper firstly introduced the data characteristics of channel multiple-beam bathymetry, DEM structure models and modeling method; and then selected the grid DEM as data format for modeling channel bottom. Two widely used DEM modeling methods, TIN(triangulated irregular network) and ANUDEM generating DEM, were employed for establishing grid DEM based on ArcGIS platform. Lastly, a section of the Yangtze River waterway was selected as study area for modeling DEM,comparing with existed DEM bathymetric contours, and analyzing the modeling precisions.
