The crawler crane is one of the most common mobile cranes, while load limiter is the core device of the security monitoring system of a crawler crane. With the development of safety and reliability of a crawler crane, the load limiter itself requires ever-higher levels of accuracy.Based on the project of load limiter on crawler cranes, and through cooperation from DUT and Shanghai Pal-Fin Automatic Control Technology Co., Ltd., this paper designs the algorithm of load limiter on crawler cranes focused on frequently-used working conditions. This paper also revises the algorithm for small-sized crawler cranes and large-sized crawler cranes respectively. In addition, evincive experiments are designed and implemented on test model on site respectively. The main research work and study of this paper are as follows:(1) Timoshenko Beam Theory and Equivalent Inertia Moment Method are introduced to simplify the model of boom system of a crawler crane. The paper also detailedly analyzed the loads on the boom.(2) The angle in the foot of the boom is revised with the Timoshenko Beam Theory and Equivalent Inertia Moment Method, and accuracy of the load limiter on small-sized crawler cranes is improved. Meanwhile, an experiment of 80t crawler crane is designed to testify feasibility of the algorithm and the algorithm-improving theory.(3) The angle in the foot and head of the boom are revised with the Timoshenko Beam Theory and Equivalent Inertia Moment Method, and accuracy of the load limiter on large-sized crawler cranes are improved. Meanwhile, an experiment of 750t crawler crane is designed to testify feasibility of the algorithm and the algorithm-improving theory. This paper put forward core algorithm and algorithm-improving theory of load limiter on crawler cranes, the research results is applied to practical product development preliminarily, and offered theory evidence for the developing and improving the algorithm of load limiter on crawler cranes.
