Belonging to the expansive construction of lx330MW project in the 2nd period in some thermal power plant. There is a design project of portal scraper reclaimer. The work site of this equipment is coal tent in the coal field of the whole system. Acrossing the coal accumulations, the reclaimer is operating in removing the material. the preliminary Design scheme has been accomplished. The main parts of this equipment consist of the following parts:Flexible Walk Assembly, Rigid Walk Assembly, Scraper Reclaimer Assembly, The metal structure of this equipment, Operation Room, Electric Room, Material Distribution Device, Lubrication Device, Detection Device, Limit Position Device, The Roller of Dynamic/Control Cable, Cleaning Device, Platform System and Control System, etc. The following work is that, with the foundation of the design scheme, we should calculate and analysis the reasonableness of the design scheme on CAE technology tools. So that we can find out some design errors in the scheme and take measures to improve and optimize metal structure. Due to the fact that there is no interface between the FEM software tool and the AutoCAD software tool with which we had completed the design papers, we have to establish the analysis model with our own according to the design papers the manufacture provided to us. The main point of this calculation project we should investigate to the metal structure of this equipment is the following:the calculation and checking of strength, the calculation and checking of rigid, the calculation and checking of stability, the calculation and checking of the special parts of the equipment, and with the reference to the results of the calculation and checking, providing the feasibility suggestions and optimization of metal structure. In this paper, we can make static analysis in the calculation of the equipment with the FEM methods.In this project, we have established the Geometry model in the "standard" environment of Pro/ENGINEER software, and after that, we have proceeded the calculation, analysis and optimization in the Pro/Mechanica analysis environment of Pro/ENGINEER software. According to the results of FEM calculation, and combined with the practical experience of design and production, we had provided the scheme of improvement and optimization. It is the characteristics that there is the powerful functions, convenience, the fact of it is easy to learn, the advanced thought of parametric driving and Data correlation and easily modification of geometry model integrated to the Pro/ENGINEER product. The geometry model established in the "standard" environment can be imported to the "Mechanica" analysis environment of that seamlessly, and Owing to the characteristic of Data correlation processed in the Pro/ENGIEER software, even if the geometry model has been changed in the "standard" environment, the relevant elements defined in the changed feature of the model can be driven with the model changing, and it is not necessary to redefine it. P-method has been employed in the Pro/Mechanica to form the rigid matrix of the elements. It is very effective to the conventional static analysis. And because of this, the difficulty and workload of the model simplifying would be reduced drastically. Through the using the function of detecting the connection automatically and defining "interface" orders, designer can spend more energy to check and deal with details in the model. With the function of Single-database of PTC software, the model has been changed with parametric function more easily.This analysis project is reflection of the advantages of the FEM analysis methods of the CAE technology which is used in guiding practical production. CAE——COMPUTER AIDED ENGINEERING, including of all the aspects of the informatization in engineering and manufacture. It is the engineering analysis technology which is based on the modern Computational Mechanics, and whose means is the computer simulation. It is an important technology who realize the product of modernization design. It is the important means and tool with which the engineers design the product innovatively. And it is the cross field which emerge and develop with the combination of computer technology and modern mechanics theory, and is developing as the important technology in manufacturing industry and engineering field. The key point of the CAE analysis technology is that, based on the 3D solid modeling, beginning with product solutions, we proceed our design project and comprehensive evaluation according to the practical conditions of usage, and simulation and analysis metal structure according to the performance requirements. By means of this project, we can comprehend the status and effect of the CAD technology and FEM analysis method in the practical production more deeply. At the same time, we can comprehend and be familiar with the powerful function of Pro/ENGINEER software and his contribution to the CAD/CAE field.
