In this contemporary pluralism and the information times, people are showing their yearning increasingly for the environment which represents the Regional characteristic, real life, history, culture and how to keep the personality of the Chinese culture in the globalization period. For the Chinese people, this kind of demand doesn't only come from the fact that people are tired of the international style, but also the demand of the sense of belonging because of the growing of the material life.How to make the landscape design which reflects the times feature not separate itself from the connection with the traditional and regional culture? We need more landscape which can reflect the nation, life, history and culture background. As the carrier of the social culture, the landscape is asked for offering relatively steady and specific ideology. As a result, the landscape designers must response for the disordered culture standard.In this background, it is worth to study how to understand and inherit the tradition at the present times.This article studies the contemporary Chinese landscape design with the semantics and semiotics. It mainly analyzes the design methods and material structure. Bringing the related concepts and research methods of the semantics and semiotics into the landscape design, this article analyzes and concludes a new kind of approach to reform and refine traditional culture. With this way, the traditional culture can adapt the social change in the new times. This approach also agrees with the objective of creating the distinct Chinese and times characteristic landscape.The first half of this article states in detail the specific connotation, basic components and the semantical manifestation mode of the landscape design of the "Chinese style". Then it analyzes the design approaches and methods of the landscape design of the "Chinese style". The design approaches and methods mean the grammar constitution between the landscape symbols. The different landscape grammar organizes the different landscape symbols, which form many different landscape places that express the "Chinese style". It announces that the environment has not only the material form, but also conveys the ideology information as a kind of carrier.The second half of this article expresses the "Chinese style" figuratively and abstractively. It studies the morphological characteristics of the element forms, space structure, material quality, colour and scale. The ideology information is also analyzed, such as the traditional design ideas, art style and technology. The both of two defines all the semantic of the design symbols. Besides, a large number of examples are shown to prove the theory. The article also mentions some strategic suggestions in the aspect of expressing the "Chinese style" abstractively.According to the exploration and research above, the article conclude the enlightenment and strategic opinions. It is necessary to combine the tradition and modern, the native and foreign culture.
