This thesis is a preliminary study on regional culture in the landscape planningand design. Through combining with the author’s preliminary landscape practice,images research, literature research, field investigation and cases participation toresearch and explore the “traditional and regional characteristics” of landscape. Usingdesign methods of modern landscape and architecture, the thesis creates regionallandscape and architectural forms which meets the need of modern function andaesthetics with unique geographical characteristics.In the thesis, the author hopes to find out a systematic reasonable way which is acontinuation and development of regional traditional culture through the practice ofregional traditional culture and landscape design so as to strengthen modern people’semphasis on the traditional culture and history as well as avoid the man-made situationof regional culture fading. Finally, the author hopes to carry forward the traditionalculture from national to worldwide and makes more and more people understand theancient and magical regional traditional culture of China.The whole thesis is divided into seven chapters: the first chapter describes theresearch background, finds out the related research theories, presents the significanceof the research, and clarifies the value of studies. The second chapter presents the basicconcept of regional traditional culture and finds out the components of it. The thirdchapter discusses the basic function of regional traditional culture, explores theconnotation of regional landscape design, and analyzes the influence factors of modern landscape design. The fourth chapter discusses the ideas and methods of regionallandscape design and the ways of combination with regional traditional culture throughanalyzing the design works of practice. In the fifth chapter, it discusses thedevelopment and inheritance of regional traditional culture in new-pattern landscapedesign. The sixth chapter is the conclusion of the whole thesis.
