Telemedicine monitoring, especially ECG(electrocardiogram) monitoring, has positive effect on prevention and treatment of angiocardiopathy. So it plays an important role in improving the quality of people's lives and promoting the healthy and harmonious development of the society. Actually, it is becoming one of the international research hot spots in recent years. Based on the research findings at home and abroad on ECG monitoring, an three-layer (ECG sampling terminal-base station-monitoring center) framework is employed, upon which an integral, applicable and advanced ECG monitoring system is developed based on plentiful practical experience. The main contents of the paper are as follows:1. The status and trend of telemedicine monitoring technology and ECG monitoring system at home and abroad is reviewed systematically. After the analysis of the current two-layer (ECG sampling terminal-monitoring center) framework and the evaluation of the application of ECG monitoring system, a more practical three-layer (ECG sampling terminal-base station monitoring center) framework is employed, upon which the implementation of ECG system is presented.2. The formation principle and the characteristics of ECG signals are studied. In order to reduce the interference of ECG signals, a dedicated ECG sampling terminal is designed, and its implementations on both hardware and software are fully discussed.3. The communication network based on the wireless SoC (System on Chip) technology is adopted to transmit data between ECG sampling terminals and the base station. Wireless communication protocols are designed on the basis of the topology of the wireless network.4. The framework of the monitoring center is developed. In the meantime, the application-layer communication protocols between the base station and the monitoring center are designed. The ECG data format, which is created by MIT-BIH, is adopted to store ECG data, and the development of a management system for the monitoring center is discussed in details.
