Metaphor began as linguistics category of a rhetorical tactics to use, but with the deepening of the research of metaphor, it has been widely applied to the disciplines and fields more. Metaphor is through the people's experiences and lessons or familiar and unfamiliar to explain people or difficult to use text language direct expression of things, it is one thing to note another form of things. In the book of"Metaphors We Live by"which is booked by lakoff and Johnson, pointed out that "metaphor is foundation of the cognitive and thinking, In some extent we can say that metaphor is the basic form of survival and development". They put metaphor as a cognitive pattern and the way of thinking, not like the traditional view witch saw the metaphor only as a kind of rhetoric.Designing is not only to create a product to meet consumers' physical function, the more important is that it can arouse the consumer to remember more memory when they use the product, and let them realize an emotional communication, so as to satisfy the consumer's higher demands of spiritual .Articles from the starting concept and development of metaphor, through a summary of existing theory and some analysis of the case recognized the importance of metaphor which is used in the product design. This study focused on how to use the metaphor better as a design technique in product design. In particular, the article discusses the specific methods when the metaphor is used in the product design. And the total application and summarized a number of elements which are suitable for the product design of metaphor. Paper applied to the specific design of metaphor involved in the process to shape, color, material, texture and other visual elements which impacts on the psychological perception, to make the analysis and summary. And the article discusses the principle we need to pay attention to when we use the metaphor. The paper is mainly to provide a theoretical reference about how to use the metaphor better in the product design.
