Being with a vast territory, our country supplies conditions widely differently in climate, geology, soil and hydrology from place to place, and there are significant differences among materials in building road, construction technique and economic conditions in every regions. In such a complex condition, designing pavement structure only referencing specification can not be appropriate for various environments. The research to recommend typical structure of asphalt pavement would combine with local road-building material characteristics better, correspond with local climate conditions, and make pavement structure, material and thickNess more reasonable, prolong the service life of the road.In this paper, a comprehensive investigation for asphalt pavements of Jinan city has been made, and classifies different structures into semi-rigid base asphalt pavement, flexible base asphalt pavement and composite base asphalt pavement as paving asphalt stabilized course over semi-rigid base. Choose typical sections of every structure in different function areas of the city as the respondents. The peak hour traffic investigation clears the composition of the vehicle load in different regions forecasts the cumulative equivalent axle loads in design period and grades into different levels; the bearing plate test in actual project and theoretical analysis make sure the lower limit of the strength of the foundation and graded into different levels too; the deflection test analyzes the bearing capacity of different structures after traffic opening; sampling on the road evaluates the mechanical properties and composition of the material, and supplies references for recommending typical structures.In addition, the paper analyzes the mechanical response of the actual structure combination and study the stress, strain, and displacement under the standard load, analyzes the mechanical properties of structure layer should have; analyzing the sensibility of flexural strain, flexural stress and shear stress for thickNess and strength of the surface-course and base-course, so we can get the main factors for different indicators.Our basic principle is considering the local situation. This paper studies the gradation and dosage near Jinan, tests and recommends the design parameters as the same level as compacted in field under the national standard.Finally we calculated the layers thickNess of pavement structure based on the traffic, foundation strength, design parameters. The structures must pass the estimate of the mechanics-experience pavement design guide, then they are recommended as the typical structures of the Jinan city asphalt pavement.
