Research On The Planning And Design Of Aquatic Garden In Botanical Garden

Aquatic Garden, a specialized garden in botanical garden, is used for collecting, displaying and researching various kinds of aquatic plants. Meanwhile, it has been one of essential specialized gardens as being a scenic place close to the water.This thesis makes a study on planning and designing of Aquatic Garden, through tracing the development background and trend of worldwide botanical gardens, the relationship between botanical garden and landscape architecture. The basic research content mainly covers the following points:Definition differentiated from park. Through analyzing the international aquatic gardens, it can be classified into more than 5 categories according to functions, which including comprehensive, specialized aquatic plants, ecological demonstration, cultural remembrance and other uses.It also can be classified into regular and natural styles. On summarizing of the history and development trend of Aquatic Garden, In the end, the thesis concludes that the Aquatic Garden will take a more prominent position emphasizing ecological concept and multiple functions. Meanwhile, it proposes that Aquatic garden in China has some shortcomings in species diversity, science education, maintenance and garden renovation.On the planning level, Aquatic garden can orient in function, character and scale. Site selection emphasizes more on fully utilization of water resource, and harmonic relationship with the whole botanical garden, and arranges the surrounding specialized gardens integrating with regional features;Space composition can adopt several patterns such as axis symmetric, center pattern and distributed pattern; The paths pay more attention to succinctly running through the main area with various trails and water upstream lines.The water system includes water-centric, island-separation and meandering waters.Meanwhile, vegetation planning strategy indicates more on regionality, integrity and diversity, coordinating terrestrial plants with aquatic plants in a vertical stratification, constructing different plant spaces like linear space, covering space, open space and semi-open space. On the design level, it mainly involves the landscape elements in Aquatic garden, including the revetment design, the selection of aquatic plants and the design of architecture, operculum, and signboard. Finally, the thesis proposes aspects needed to be further and deeper researched:the selection and disposition of ornamental aquatic plants and the disposition of aquatic plant ecological community and so on.
