Analysis On China's Environment Threat

The image of 'China Threat' has existed in the western world since a long time ago. From the'Anti-China Stream'in the end of 19th century to a variety of endless'China Threat' theories of early 1990s, all of them has caused severe damage on the image of China, involving politics, economy, military, resource, culture, and other aspects. The environment problems which become more and more serious, not only bring inconvenience for domestic life, but also affect other countries to some degree. The globalization of the effect of Chinese environment problem has given birth to a new allegation of'China Environment Threat', which is harming China's international image from a different angle.This has been a critical issue when researching scientific socialism currently."'China Environment Threat' was first shaping in America in 1990s, with its symbol as Lester Brown, the director of Worldwatch Institute publishing a report named'Who Will Feed China'on Worldwatch Journal. In his report, Brown pointed out that China's shortage in water resource and food is aggravating, which, in his point of view, is'a grievous threaten which is worse than traditional military safety threaten'. After his issuing of this report, all the main developed countries, some of Chinese neighboring Asian countries and some African countries started to surge the wave of'China Environment Threat' one after another, which lasted till today.The theory of 'China Environment Threat' regards China as the threaten to global environment pollution and resources. As the leading propagandist of this theory, America, Japan, Korea, India and other countries alleging this theory not only out of consideration for concerning their own environment safety, but mostly in the aim of shifting their international responsibility of environment governance, scrambling for the limited energy resource and restricting China's development at the meantime. The news broadcasting, newspaper and other mass media played an important role in the increasingly fierce momentum of'China Environment Threat' theory, which posed China great press on global environment governance while hurting China's international image. Facing this, on one hand, we should look through it and grab the essence that'China Environment Threat' is a real reflection existing, which should be confronted; on the other hand, this statement is concerning interests game, which is exaggerated and distorted. We can deal with the theory of'China Environment Threat' via adjusting the understanding of sovereignty in environment field, modifying domestic developing pattern, rectifying Chinese environment diplomatic policy, and actively build up a 'responsible' country image in global environment governance.
