Based on the field work in Chencun village in the east plain of Henan Province, this paper presents an empirical research on the mechanisms of mutual shaping between rural environmental pollution and community. In this paper I provide a detailed description of the process of the event of pollution in poultry raising in Chencun Village such as its emergence, development, and control. It attempts to reveal the complicated relationship among those factors within that community and the process of evolution. My findings show that the emergence of the pollution event lies in a specific social mechanism in a community. There is a mutual reshaping process between pollution and community-building. During the process, the impacts of modernization and marketization on community life make traditional factors weaker. The community mechanism reshaped during this process is more efficient, and can efficiently prevent and control pollution in poultry raising. This is dynamic mutual reshaping process. In the conclusion part, this paper puts forward the mechanisms of mutual reshaping between pollution and community building. This conclusion provides us a new perspective of exploring environmental pollution and a new model of solving the problem of environmental pollution in a rural community.
