The Development Of Furniture--The Research Of Song Dynastys High-type Furniture

This paper discusses the development of furniture, using the high-type furniture of Song Dynasty as the main content. The same time, the study object is the development of Chinese ancient furniture,a low-type kneeling on the grounds of the furniture at first ,then to sitting on the high-type furniture of Song Dynasty of this special historical period. The high-type furniture of Song Dynasty have gone through the process of changing from low-type furniture since Tang Dynasty to high-type furniture, finally determining the life style of sitting on the centered high-type furniture and a whole series of furniture with shaped and companioned systems in Song Dynasty. This article dividing the researching content of high-type furniture of Song Dynasty into four parts:The first part is the historical root of Song Dynasty's furniture, narrating the historical outline of furniture before Song Dynasty (discussing Chunqiuzhanguo Dynasty, Qinhan Dynasty, Weijinnanbei Dynasty and Suitangwudai Dynasty separately) and the primary status of Song Dynasty's furniture in light of Song Dynasty's historical environment, (including political, economical, cultural aspects, etc), which make the foundation for further discussing the specific classifications and forms of Song Dynasty's high-type furniture.The second part divides the furniture of Song Dynasty into four categories according to its form, including bed category, chair and stool category, desk category, cabinet and rack category, then narrating them separately. Especially, the involvement of chair and stool category, desk category at this time perform more importantly regarding for shaping and development of furniture. The third part analyses the achievements of Song Dynasty's furniture, including the structure, model, decoration and material of furniture, besides crafts of furniture, furnishings and layout and cultural connotation, etc. Understanding and deep study for Song Dynasty's furniture enlightens modern furniture's innovation in the aspect of designing concept, which raises the furniture's cultural ideological connotation and the style of elegant shape to a higher level.The last part reveals modern design's guidance resulting from Song Dynasty's furniture. The development of a furniture's history is accompanied by the history of human social development and its nature of making furniture is serving people's three aspects, that is connecting Song Dynasty with modern time, carrying on ancient systems, learning lessons from antiquities, opening up new situation and innovating; delivering elegant and graceful culture of Song Dynasty; exhibiting completely achievement of Song Dynasty's high-type furniture before modern people, which makes the final brilliant and excellent culture of this special historical period can be developed and carried on in the future, of course, Song Dynasty's furniture is a part of it.
