Dietary culture research focus on human's food, including science and technology in food production, with custom and philosophy reflected in eating behavior. Those complicated things are related to human's whole life, that in some sense, one ethnic group can be observed through by its dietary culture. Thus the history of cultural exchange usually went with the spread and change of some dietary things. Like the very long history of Sino-Japan, dietary culture is a universal but typical angle for the two people getting to know each other deeply, so that possibly for together protecting some cultural heritage from dying.During my postgraduate study, I had been attended some international conference and met several scholars. I noticed their research, finally got my interest in the academic history. Today the Chinese Dietary Culture Research has already been popular, that attracted Japanese and Korean spend great passion on it. Scholars from these two countries always pay attention on our research and achievements, also our attitude to traditional culture. As the root of Han-Culture, we have to get more information of Japanese and Korean on their achievements, methods, ideology, and hot issues.In the sight of Chinese dietary's four phases, we have noticed that during 1940s and 1970s, it was Japanese scholars almost monopolized our research field. They did great contribution to Chinese Dietary Research, and never stop. The paper did comparative studies on Sino-Japanese scholars'dietary culture research since the 20th century. In spite some close-up comments of some scholars, those recording pieces are not affecting enough to the newly young researchers.As basis of characteristics and great influences, PhD. Naomichi Ishige and Prof. Zhao Rongguang are chosen as two important subjects of this research. Through their career, main achievements and features, the paper compared the difference and similarities on their research methods, outlook, and consideration of reality, introduced and analyzed their communication too. Thus conclude the causes at four aspects:(1) cultural background as origin of one's personality; (2) subject knowledge as basis of one's methods; (3) social system as support of one's great success; (4) inner cause of oneself as root of one's scholarship. That makes sense for the newly young researchers.From the vision of typical scholars, the paper concluded the dietary academia of Sino-Japanese dietary research, by the concepts of Stockpot Effect and Popcorn Effect. Stockpot Effect describes several cross-subjects researchers are doing brainstorming on one theme, so as to the integrated comprehension and explanation. It comes down to the food material and processing, eating behavior and psychology, food ceremony and ideology. The form of study together would bring out the comprehensive and persistent thought for Japanese dietary culture on her past, reality and future. Stockpot Effect is the typical feature of Japanese contemporary, while Popcorn Effect described the situation in China for the 30 years. That is, research usually carried by individuals on their own favorites, and some of the great achievements would attract others'deep consideration of the related questions. However, for the periodical limitations of academic and social ecology, Chinese dietary research hasn't social supports like Japanese. Most of the researchers'outlook still can't get over the space of China. Thus the two concepts, compared individual research with combination research, are obviously the overall expressions of the different academia in the process of this comparative study.
