Yam is the basic unit of fabric, the effect of fabric simulation is mainly based on the effect of yam simulation. Fancy yam with irregular shape, complicated texture and structure, and multicolor is difficult to model and simulate.With the fast development of fancy yam in textile industry, the designer should work out various of fashionable fancy yams and at the same time fancy yam fabric should be produced in a short time. In this situation, computer simulations of fancy yam and its textile become very important. Computer simulation of fancy yam can be used in developing new fancy yarn and fabric simulation. In the paper, we propose a new scheme to outline fancy yarns, which are used to be embedded into fabric.First, the bitmap of a fancy yam is divided into three areas: the assured foreground, the assured background, and the unsure area. The finite difference method and the Gauss-Seidel iteration method are applied to calculate the value of α of the pixels in the unsure area. Then, according to each pixel's value of α to judge weather the pixel belongs to the foreground or the background. By repeated calculations, the unsure area reduces gradually .Set a condition to end the circulation, when the number of pixels in the unsured area is less than a certain percentage of the total number of pixels in the whole bitmap, the circulation ends, and the exact outline of the fancy yam can be obtained. Finally, give the big-belly yam and the knot yarn are given for example, good outlining effects are obtained.Poisson's equation;finite difference method;Gauss-Seidel iteration are studied in the paper. And the specific technical points, programmable frame and fancy yam database are presented in the Visual C++ 6.0 programming environment. Simulation results on some types of common and fashionable fancy yams show that the proposed scheme can get good outlining effect.
