Melanelia, Melanohalea and Melanelixia belong to Parmeliaceae, Lecanorales, Lecanoromycetidae, Lecanoromycetes, Ascomycota, Fungi. The study was based on more than 300 specimens that were respectively deposited in Lichen section of Botanical Herbarium, Shandong Normal University (SDNU), Herbarium of Cryptogams, Kunming Institute of Botany, Academia Sinica (HKAS) and Lichen Section of Herbarium of Mycology, Academia Sinica (HMAS-L). From the view of morphology, anatomy and chemistry, I carried out a comprehensive study on the lichens of Melanelia, Melanohalea and Melanelixia from China. There are 5 species of Melanelia, 12 species of Melanohalea, and 9 species of Melanelixia included in this study. Three Melanohalea species new to science, M. lobulata, M. subexasperata and M. subinfumata, and 3 species new to China, Melanelixia albertana, Melanelixia subaurifera and Melanohalea gomukhensis are reported.Species composition and local distribution of the three brown parmelioid lichen genera in China are reported for the first time. All the 26 taxa presented in this thesis are described in detail and their respectively related species are also discussed. The keys to the species of Melanelia, Melanohalea and Melanelixia from China are given, and the morphological photos of the new records and new species are provided.Ten secondary metabolites were detected by using the color reaction test (CT), thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and microcrystal test (MCT).The study enriches the distribution data of these lichen genera Melanelia, Melanohalea and Melanelixia in China, and provides basic data for Flora Lichens Sinicarum.
