It's an important educational method for improving adolescents' accomplishment of life science to carry out biology popularization activities. How to evaluate these activities scientifically and systematically is essential for directing and testing them effectively. The adolescent is the main body of biology popularization activities, and they should exert the main effect they desire in evaluating. Therefore, we want tobreakthrough the customary evaluating method——to be judged by experts incontests, and search for a new evaluating system which is more scientific, more canonical and more helpful to embody the status of adolescents.The paper summarized the current situation of biology popularization activities and evaluation of biology classroom teaching by literature, and drew lessons from some educational theories, such as constructivism theory, STS educational theory, the theory of multiple intelligences, and theories of education for all-around development and study in cooperation. Besides, the paper used performance assessment, scale assessment and portfolio assessment as sources of reference.The major objective of this study is to improve adolescents' accomplishment of life science. Based on theoretical researches, we gathered opinions of 272 students from 6 middle schools in Shanghai through questionnaire. By analyzing the questionnaires with statistic methods like univariate, we got the evaluation scale of biology popularization activities primarily. Subsequently, we took advices separately from biology popularization expert, biology teacher, biology researcher and people who doesn't major in biology. Adopting their notions, we amended the evaluation scale partially and drew out the evaluation system of biology popularization activities. This evaluation system integrated quantitative evaluation and qualitative evaluation, and it gave priority to quantitative evaluation. Qualitative evaluation laid particular emphasis on encouragement, with better flexibility, it confirmed the outstanding performances in activities. The evaluation scale included 4 first-grade evaluation indices, 8 second-grade indices and 43 third-grade indices. The first-grade evaluation indices and their weighings are activity conception (0.31), activity organization (0.22), activity process (0.31), and activity conclusion (0.16). The second-grade evaluation indices and their weighings are aim and meaning of activity (0.12), selection of activity topic (0.19), organizer of activity (0.09), preparation, content and form of activity (0.13), situation of accomplishment (0.06), other situations in activity (0.25), presentation of result (0.05) and activity feedback (0.11). Correlation analysis with SPSS showed the indices of this evaluation scale is significantly correlated with the result of questionnaire, and it could demonstrate that the construction of this scale respected the result of investigation with favorable scientificalness.This study emphasized that we should construct the evaluation system mainly based on the will of adolescents. With some novelty, it is referential and practical for evaluating biology popularization activities. The evaluation of biology popularization activities is a growing and changing process, its perfection requires long-term efforts and practical tests.
