City serves as a centre where the human lives in compact communities, its biological diversity is not only the material foundation of sustained and steady development of industrial economy and the principal source of human's material needs, but also it has the extremely important environmental resource value, such as climate regulation, noise reduction, pollutant degradation, beautify the environment and so on. At the same time, it plays very important part in people's survivals such as entertainment, aesthetics, social-cultural, science education, spirit, history and so on. Riverfront plays a critical role in urban development, which is the ecotone of nature interlaces with artificial of urban ecosystem and is the one of most co-effects of the areas where human activities and nature. In this paper the plant species diversity of southern and northern part of Minjiang River Park in Fuzhou was studied. Taking the structure of the plant community into account, species richness Index (R), Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H), Simpson diversity index (D) and Pielou evenness index (J) were to be a kind of measure to species diversity, combining with analyses of the composition of plant community in the sample plot. The main results were as follows:1. In the North part and the South part of Minjiang River Park, more than 200 species belonged to 71 families and 129 genera, of which included 87 arborous species and 49 shrub species. Furthermore, flowering plants were in the majority, foliage plants took second place, and fruit-ornamental plant had followed suit. The summer flowering plants were the largest share, the spring flowering plants as second, which was followed by the autumn flowering plants, at least in winter flowering plant species. Flower color was mainly white, followed by red, then yellow, then blue and purple. The most common garden plants were 21 species.2. The proportion of evergreen species to deciduous species between the south and north part had few discrepancy. The plant community was mainly based on evergreen species. Evergreen species and deciduous species were close to each other in amount, the number of deciduous species was significant more than coniferous species. The amount of deciduous species and coniferous species in two parts should be increased. 3. The average species richness of the north park was less than that of the south park. The species diversity indexes of simpson was the north parkthe south park. The evenness index of Pielou was the north park
